07 – Erica Becking

Artist Erica Becking from Southern California designed this shirt. She draws and paints with watercolors, and then throws the result into a blender with her computer. When the blender’s not spewing out jumbled computer parts, it spits out wonderful art like the piece you see. She obsessively stays within the lines of her favorite coloring books.

ARTWalk: Brooke Reidt

Brooke1

Obviously, we were totally smitten when we viewed Brooke Reidt’s artwork–canvases covered in a melange of color and dreamlike visuals. The Los Angeles bus-rider/art-maker was recruited by the Element team to become an Advocate, collaborating with the brand to create graphics for shirts, and to be a role model for other young ladies. Wanna be impressed like us? Then read her interview!

Josh Cochran extraordinaire

September 24th, 2009

future

What can we say about Josh Cochran that hasn’t already been said? A whole lot of things: we can say he’s a Nigerian prince who needs a cash advance; we can say he’s negotiating a contract to join Lance Armstrong’s The Shack bicycle team. On second and third thought, those things haven’t already been said because they’re lies in the factual sense. We can say Josh makes us joyful with more truthiness, because we’re being honest now.

The illustration process is a time consuming process. We probably went through 9 different drawings before actually getting to the final cover for aStory magazine issue 1. That my friend is time consuming. But this is by no means a complaint because to have a job that allows you to draw freely is pretty dreamy. Have you ever bought 20 gallons of ice-cream and filled your bathtub with it and took a seat? That kind of dreamy. So go put on a bathing suit because it’s about to get hot in here, illustration hot.

YearningFor-Freedom

This Mexican illustrator has got us all tickled with his style of doing all things illustrative. You can sense the Mexican influence in his work just by the colors and decorative patterns. Once an Art Director and now a full on illustrator, Alberto Ceriteno is going to catch your eye and make you say, “I wish I could do that.”

Illustrations, wits, humor, friendliness, something about 1990’s basketball players are just a few things that Will Bryant is covering. His works are, to us, ummmmmm AWESOME! That’s just one word to describe it and that’s being modest. We love us some Bryant here at the office and we don’t mean Kobe. We mean Will.

Stu, Stu, Studio.

Taking it to the studio is sometimes the only way to get your idea across. Sometimes there are other ways, but as far as our Denim Illustration Shoot goes, this is the only way we could think of. If you have better ideas on how we should of executed this please let us know at boom(at)astoryontheweb(dot)com. We will not redo the shoot because your idea might be better. We will simply say, “that was a better idea.” Enjoy some models. Enjoy some illustrations. Word.

Jose Manuel Hortelano has got those watercolors all watered up and ready to go. Need a portrait? Yeah, probably, something to send home to the family for all the trouble you caused in the past? Just kidding, you’re a diamond. Check out the very interesting works of Jose and get happy or uncomfortable, suit yourself.
