Playlists Of The Pros
February 22nd, 2010

With the New Year comes resolution, and ours was to trade in our old played out tunes for some new ones. For help, we asked a few of our favorite kids from the brands we carry what they’ve been bobbin’ their heads to. Now our iTunes is overflowing with rad jams and yours can too.

With the New Year comes resolution, and ours was to trade in our old played out tunes for some new ones. For help, we asked some of the coolest kids from equally cool brands what they’ve been bobbin’ their heads to. Now our iTunes is overflowing with rad jams, and yours can too. We’ve got tons of these playlists, so we’re gonna release one at a time starting tomorrow. We don’t want you blowing your whole iTunes holiday gift card in one sitting. Read Full Story
Better Than Platinum: The Chromeo Interview
November 30th, 2009

“Romeo” seems to be the only word that rhymes with Chromeo. And for good reason. This two-piece R&B-electro outfit, consisting of P Thugg and Dave 1, drums up songs that make you want to dance, and cuddle too. Click on to read about their favorite breakfast cereals and celebrity crushes, and afterwards, watch them jam out with Daryl Hall from legendary Hall and Oates.
HORRORSHOW
November 16th, 2009

British buzz band the Horrors are often mistaken as goth, and not without reason. Their ghastly pale appearances, abundance of black clothing, eery use of organ, creepy stage names like “Coffin Joe” (we could go on and on, but you get the picture) recall the gloomiest of the early 80‘s cemetery stalkers. Light the candles, dim the lights, and read as organ player and bassist Rhyss “Spider” Webb discusses the change in the band’s sound his disdain for goth, and his favorite Jungle Book character.
Datarock: The Musical
October 19th, 2009
Know the cool commercials and video games where the music is great but you’ve never heard it before? That’s because people are paid to go out and find good music you’ve never heard to impress your ears. (They usually do that at SXSW in Austin and Winter Music Conference in Miami.) Well we’ll just go ahead and give the farm away: the good music they’re all onto is Datarock. This electro-duo makes some of the finest sounds in Norway (maybe all Scandinavia!), and they met while avoiding compulsory military duty. Norway doesn’t need a military, anyway, they need more Datarock, herring and snowplows.
Read their hilarious interview after the jump, then go listen hard to their “Fa Fa Fa” video here.
Amanda Blank, as jocked by Nic Stecher
October 9th, 2009
Amanda Blank is kinda cute. The girl has an original style, copious sense of humor and she habitually refers to herself as the posterchild of teenage female looseness, Married With Children’s Kelly Bundy. Oh yeah, and she’s just dropped the hipster rap LP of the summer, I Love You, on Downtown Records. If you want to know what happened to Peggy Bundy, or if you don’t please read on.

Mock Orange
October 6th, 2009
aStory wanted to know more about Joe Asher, the guitarist from Mock Orange. So we told him we’d print lies about him unless he played nice. And what a nice guy he turned out to be when threatened!

GOONS OF DOOM!
September 28th, 2009
Goons of Doom doesn’t seem right without the exclamation pointer. All caps makes the title look better, too. But since you won’t hear Goons of Doom on this page unless you have a song of theirs playing right now in your head or through your speakerbox, these are just words out of context. Please go and come back playing some Goons to go with reading this. Computers are good for that.
Here is where frontman Ozzie Wright kind of answered questions. The Goons of Doom are on Volcom Entertainment, so you don’t have a choice except to love them. No choice at all.
As Tall As Lions
September 23rd, 2009
What a rad band name. Seriously, we’re always thinking of banned names, but none approaches As Tall As Lions for goodness of band nomination domination. We crank called them on tour, and they weren’t cranky, except when we said they could all make it as solo acts. That crank call got us a rad interview with a rad band, with a rad band name. Not all of the interview made it into aStory Issue II, what did is here and so to is a little more that didn’t, rad, hey?

MSTRKRFT’s lies
September 14th, 2009

What do you know about MSTRKRFT? Wrong! The guys in MSTRKRFT lie in interviews all the time. Al-P told us about the lies he makes up to entertain himself during other, boring interviews. (They’re not named after Kraft slices? Revelations!) Listen as the dude in the duo who isn’t the guy in Death From Above 1979 overfills your ears with his yummy ear candy. Mmm.
Read their lies after the jump, then check out their last video if you so like. Their website features our favorite taco stand on Vine in Hollywood. Read Full Story
