Artist Ashley Lande describes herself as an “endocosmic cartographer.” Her shirt design was inspired by anything and everything, especially love and beauty. She thinks that Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys wrote some of the most beautifully psychedelic music ever. Read on gentle readers.
Your shirt is obviously influenced by psychedelic stuff. What’s the best new psychedelic band you’ve heard?
The mighty Entrance Band from California! Also, my husband who records as Das Energi.
In 4 words, what does this piece mean to you?
Prana comin’ at ya!
If I wear this shirt, am I going to automatically trip out?
I hope so! That state of consciousness is available to all of us any time, anywhere. It’s within you and without you.
Speaking of tripping out, It’s gonna be crazy for you seeing people wearing your design. Who would you rather see in your shirt — Roky Erickson or Syd Barrett?
That’s tough cause I love them both, but I’ll go with Roky cause the song “Splash 1” is one of my all-time favorites.
If you could give your shirt to one famous psychedelic rock n roller to wear on stage, who would it be?
Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys! He wrote some of the most beautifully psychedelic music ever.
Who has a better beard — a viking or santa claus and why?
Santa. He is so real too, it’s just on another plane that we can’t always see.
What was your inspiration for this piece?
Everything. Love and Beauty.
Why this piece rather than any other of yours for your shirt?
It’s roughly symmetrical, sort of on an axis. I thought it would be good to wear
What can we expect to see from you in the future?
New life. The ultimate creativity – my husband and I will welcome a baby boy named Israel Wolfgang Glynn Lande into this world in December.
