Legally speaking, George Lucas owns all things Ewok. But that never stopped EWOK from traveling the world, painting a word George Lucas owns wherever he likes. EWOK lives outside the law. RVCA may not care about ewoks but they do care about EWOK, and that’s probably why EWOK is a large member of their Artist Network Program. Read about his international adventures after the jump.
… I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin … I was an only child until I was seven, and I just entertained myself by drawing all the time. I never got tired with it or bored with it, because with art you can always get better …
… In terms of graffiti, I was already into painting and illustration, fine art and stuff, but graffiti was this mysterious thing to me, ’cause it was one of those things you could never find information about in art books … You would just randomly see things on the street … I perceived that there was more to it than scribbling and vandalism, but I didn’t have any point of reference to figure it out …
… I’ve kind of lucked out and been able to go a bunch of places in the last couple of years. Probably my first trip was New Zealand. My friend Askew sent me this email asking me to go to this graffiti/hip-hop jam in Auckland … I didn’t even have a passport at the time … They had a really developed scene considering I hadn’t heard anything about New Zealand graffiti before that. They really took good care of me. That was an amazing experience that opened my eyes…
… I’ve gone to Tokyo, Taipei, Barcelona, Seoul … I think my favorite place is Tokyo. It was even cooler than I imagined it would be. It’s got this modern, Blade Runner feel to it. And I just like how orderly and clean everything is, people are polite and respectful. There’s a tangible decency to the culture …
… We found this really cool, huge abandoned tobacco factory across the street from our hotel in Taipei … We ended up painting in there … Towards the end of the day, the sun was going down and all the sudden we start seeing these security guards on mopeds driving around, clearly looking for us … We ended up running out of there, and as we’re going over the fence I realized I’d lost my camera that had all my pictures from the trip, so I had to sneak back in there like an hour later, scramble around in this huge building complex … I ended up finding it …
… The dude that painted in Singapore, I think he was an idiot … He vandalized something, and they caned him … I won’t be painting there …
